Most lockouts are keys left on the seat or in the ignition. The job is to open the door with the right tools, not to force it. Done properly, the car is opened without marks on the paint, damage to the weather seal, or a broken window.
Before you call
Check the other doors first.
It sounds obvious, but a back door or the trunk release is sometimes left unlocked, and it is worth trying every door before waiting on a truck. If there is a spare key at home and someone can bring it, that may be quicker still.

A child or a pet inside is an emergency.
If a child or an animal is locked in the car, especially in Texas heat, call 911 first. Do not wait for a lockout service. Emergency services will treat it as the urgent situation it is.

Say where the car is, what the make and model are, and where the keys are — on the seat, in the ignition, or lost entirely. That last one matters: if the keys are inside, opening the door solves it; if they are lost, opening the door does not get the car started, and you may need a locksmith or a tow to the dealer instead. Be ready to show that the car is yours once it is open, with an ID that matches the registration or insurance card inside. Nobody should open a car for someone who cannot show it belongs to them, and a lockout service that does not ask is not one to trust.

Will opening the car damage it?
It should not. Lockout tools are designed to open the door without forcing the lock or breaking glass. That is the whole point of calling someone rather than trying it with a coat hanger.
What if I have lost the keys altogether?
Then opening the door only solves half of it. Say so on the call — the car may need a locksmith to cut a new key or a tow to the dealer, and it is better to know that before anyone drives out.
